The short version: 7 days free with full access. Cancel during the trial → pay nothing. Don't cancel → your subscription begins automatically at $7.99/month or $59.99/year, whichever you picked when you started the trial. Cancel any time through your iPhone's Settings.
When you download Why Not from the Apple App Store, you can start a 7-day free trial. During the trial, you have full access to every feature in the App — plan generation, the workout runner, the coach voice, sick day, pause, and Apple Health sync.
The trial is processed entirely through Apple's App Store. Apple records the start date and manages the trial window. You don't enter a credit card directly with us — you sign in with your Apple ID, and Apple holds the payment method on file.
When you start the trial, you choose between two subscription tiers. Both tiers include the same 7-day free trial and the same access to features.
You cancel through Apple's settings, the same way you'd cancel any iOS subscription:
If you cancel during the trial, Apple will continue to honor full access through day 7, but you won't be charged at the end. After day 7, the App will move to a read-only state.
If you cancel after subscribing, you keep full access until the end of your current paid period (the day before your next renewal would have charged). After that, the App moves to read-only mode.
You can also manage subscriptions at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions from any browser signed into your Apple ID.
If your trial ends without subscribing, or your subscription lapses, the App enters a read-only state. This means:
You can switch between Monthly and Annual tiers through your iPhone's Subscriptions settings. Apple handles proration automatically.
If you switch from Monthly to Annual, the change typically takes effect immediately and Apple credits any unused portion of your monthly billing toward the annual price.
If you switch from Annual to Monthly, the change typically takes effect at your next annual renewal date — you'll keep annual access until then.
Why Not does not process refunds directly. Apple handles all payments and refund requests through its own process.
You can request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple's standard refund window for accidental purchases is typically 14 days, but Apple's policies and discretion control the outcome — not us. We can't approve, deny, or expedite refunds on Apple's behalf.
Apple typically grants refunds for things like accidental purchases, technical issues that prevent the App from working, or duplicate charges. Apple typically denies refunds for "I changed my mind after using the product." This is consistent with how Apple handles refund requests across the App Store — it's not a Why Not policy.
Apple permits a single free trial per Apple ID per subscription group. If you've previously started (or completed) a trial of Why Not on the same Apple ID, you may not be eligible for another. This is enforced by Apple, not by us.
Why Not does not currently support Apple's Family Sharing for the subscription. The subscription is tied to the purchasing Apple ID. If we add support in a future version, we'll update this page.
If something goes wrong with your trial or subscription — for example, the App charges you on day 6 instead of day 7, or doesn't unlock features during your active subscription — email bobby@whynot.run. I'll work with you and, if needed, point you to Apple's support to get it resolved.
If we change anything material about how the trial or subscription works (length, price, eligibility), we'll update this page and the "last updated" date at the top. Existing trials and subscriptions in progress will be honored under the policy that was in effect when they started.
Apple requires that any subscription price increase be communicated to existing subscribers, who can cancel before the increase takes effect.
This Trial Policy is part of the broader agreement between you and Why Not:

This policy is written in plain English on purpose. The trial is genuinely free for 7 days, and you can cancel any time through your iPhone's Settings. No tricks.
